The Carbon Credit Program, simply put, allows
landowners who are growing trees to earn
money for the amount of carbon those trees
"collect".

Chesnut Forestry is able to assist landowners in North Alabama
and North Georgia (and even SE Tennessee!) enter into this
ground-breaking, innovative program.  The timbered tracts must be at
least 10 acres in size, can be planted pine, natural pine, hardwoods or a
mixture of both.

A "Credit" is a metric ton of carbon.  As a general rule of thumb, a
planted pine stand in the Southern US can earn between two and three
credits per acre per year.  A mature hardwood stand can earn up to two.

The number of credits that can be earned on a particular tract is
estimated from a baseline cruise.  This baseline is then "grown" using
growth and yield programs over the term of the contract, and adjusted
based on any silvicultural (forestry) management actions planned for the
property (i.e. thinning, fertilization, burning, etc).

These credits are placed into a "pool" of credits, which is filled from
properties nationwide.  Once the pool is filled, the credits are traded on
the Chicago Commodities Exchange by
Agragate--the preeminent carbon
credit trading company, and the leader in the industry.  LANDOWNERS
DO NOT PAY TO HAVE THEIR INDIVIDUAL CREDITS LISTED FOR TRADE.
The strength of the Agragate system lies in the sheer number of credits
they can offer for trade at any time.

The credits are and will continue to be in high demand as Companies,
Industries and even Countries that are considered carbon "producers"
purchase the credits in order to "offset" a portion of the carbon they
produce.  (They are required to clean up their emissions as well, but they
can also partially reduce their "carbon footprint" by buying equivalent
and offsetting amounts of carbon that your trees pull in from the air and
"sequester" within their fibers.  So basically, you get paid for
photosynthesis!!!

So...earn a dollar and breathe freely--actually, get paid to breathe!

Credits have traded for as low as $1.00 each to as high as $8.00 each in
the past calendar year.  Given current political tendencies, it is likely that
demand for the carbon credits (and therefore their price) will grow, while
timber prices drop, and property taxes increase...so it could behoove
landowners to tap into this source of income early and often!

Planted pines can be planted after a clearcut or as a pasture conversion.
Tracts must be entered into a 15-year contract and the ONLY TRUE
RESTRICTION is that the tracts should not be clearcut during the
contract.

THE ONLY OUT OF POCKET COST TO THE LANDOWNER is the cost of
the initial, baseline cruise and paperwork necessary to estimate the
number of annual credits.  Each stand (type of timber) must be cruised
separately and the entire property must be enrolled into the
Tree Farm
Program (which basically means the landowner gets a Forestry
Management Plan, a timber cruise, and the commitment of a Registered
Forester to inspect his property annually all at one time!

INTERESTED?  Then call Tim TODAY!!!!  For qualifying tracts, five years
of BACK CREDITS (meaning five years of carbon accumulation) can be
paid.  But that is ONLY if landowners sign up by March 1, 2009!!!
